Older retirement age benefits workers

The answer to longer life expectancy and a contracting retirement system is for people to stay in the work force longer, writes Center for Retirement Research Director Alicia Munnell.

Professor Munnell is the Peter F. Drucker professor of management sciences at Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. She also is the director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. Before joining Boston College in 1997, she was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (1995-1997) and assistant secretary of the Treasury for economic policy (1993-1995).
